FAQ – Can our Past Hinder our Breakthrough?

Question: Can our Past Hinder our Breakthrough?

Answer: For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. Eph 2:8-9

One area that I haven’t yet specifically covered is to do with our past. Remember, we are….

FAQ – If Jesus healed ALL who came to Him, why am I still sick?

Another FAQ on Healing…

The Bible says that Jesus went about healing ALL who were sick. It doesn’t say that these people did anything particularly special. He just had compassion on them and healed ALL OF THEM. Where I get hung up is this, why are people still sick today?

I believe it is important to understand the Finished work of the Cross, our New Covenant and also our position in the Kingdom! When reading the Bible we need to understand this because we are no longer in the Gospels – we are now post cross, spirit filled New Creations.

FAQ – I know what God’s Word says BUT how do I get it to manifest?

Question: I know what God’s Word says but how do I get it to work for me?

Let me answer this by sharing some of my own journey with you…

When my husband was first diagnosed as ‘sterile’, I received, believed and conceived the diagnosis of the doctor, ‘that we would never have a child of our own’. This diagnosis and other natural circumstances were more real to me than God and His healing power. I would constantly beg, plead and cry out for God’s help because I could see no way out of our situation. I saw Shaun and myself as a childless couple. Every baby, or pregnant woman was just a painful reminder of what I did not have and what I was told that I could not have. The more I focused on these natural circumstances, the more hopeless my situation would become – in my outlook and thinking!

I thank God that this was short lived! It was not long before I discovered this truth in His Word…

Worship the LORD your God, and his blessing will be on your food and water. I will take away sickness from among you, 26 and none will miscarry or be barren in your land. I will give you a full life span. Exodus 23:25-26(NIV)

When I discovered this truth, it became a shot of life to me BUT my feelings, thinking or circumstances did not change. In fact everything appeared to grow worse and because I did not know how to see that truth become reality in my life, I would let go of this truth and end up stuck in the natural realm. So I was constantly being torn between the natural circumstances and the truth of what God’s Word says.

It is important when we get stuck in the flesh like this that we can simply stop, wait and listen. Why try to ‘make God’s Word work’ when He Himself can show you what to do?! When I stopped ‘doing’ and started ‘listening’ He began to show me how to walk by what His Word says to remain in a place of rest and not walk by what my circumstances said. Now, when I say rest I mean to rest in God’s ability and not in our own abilities. At first this whole process was difficult for me, because up until that point I had only ever known how to walk by my feelings, emotions and by what my natural senses were telling me. Instead I had to keep God’s Word close to my heart because my natural thinking and analyzing would always get the better of me. I achieved this by meditating (which means to study, ponder, utter, mutter) on God’s truths regardless of how I felt and regardless of what the circumstances were. And you know what? Soon God’s truth became more real to me than my natural circumstances! I found that all the begging, pleading, striving and desperation left me! I also started to see myself with my victory (my baby) rather than without it. And what was happening to other couples (good or bad) no longer affected me because I knew God’s will for my own life and for my own family! I also found that what was happening each month in the natural (no positive pregnancy test) was no longer tormenting me or stealing my joy! And praise God, soon my natural circumstances began to line up with what I saw through the eyes of faith (what God’s Word said), and I conceived my first miracle baby!!! Shaun’s doctor could not believe it! When Shaun told him over the phone that I was PREGNANT he told him to drive to his office immediately! And do you know what he said? He told Shaun that because he was sterile it was impossible, and that there was no way that this could be his baby! But God has a great sense of humour because all 4 of our miracle children when born were the image of their father!

Now, you may not be desiring a baby, but what other “baby” are you desiring to conceive? Do you need healing, a financial or business breakthrough, or do you need victory over fear, depression, discouragement or something else along these lines? It does not matter what “baby” you are desiring to conceive. Your breakthrough in any area begins the same way – when you conceive the truth in God’s Word! God’s Word is His seed on this earth and is how we see His Kingdom grow and bear fruit in our lives.

When you know what God’s Word says regarding your situation, spend time in that truth, allowing it to grow and transform the way you think and the way you see your natural circumstances so that your circumstances can change! They may initially grow worse but regardless, don’t let go of the truth! I’m not talking about denying what is happening but there are times when we need to walk by God’s truth in spite of what is happening!

Remember that God’s Word is like a seed and it can take time for a seed to develop roots, grow and bear fruit. This is why it is so important not to let what is happening on the surface or natural realm to move you. There are no short cuts or quick fixes. Give God’s Word time to transform your thinking so that what His Word says becomes more real to you than what you are facing in the natural. And above all else continue to seek God for who He is and not just for the breakthrough you need, because when you know Him, then you have your breakthrough! He will personally bring His Word to life and show you how to apply it in a simple yet powerful way and on a daily level. So keep fixing your eyes on who He is because you will discover that with Him, nothing is ever impossible!

How Does Fruitfulness Flow?

You ARE Fruitful!

You ARE Fruitful!

FAQ – How do I stop ‘doing’ and start ‘being’?

Question: You mentioned in a recent post that we need to stop ‘doing healing’ by working towards healing, instead we need to meditate on Jesus finished work until we ARE healed, which means that where we are walking in and experiencing healing. Do I just envision my breakthrough by meditating on His Word?

Answer: When you meditate on God’s Word and it comes to life and transforms your thinking you start seeing yourself healed. And when you walk in this new truth you then start experiencing the manifestation of what it says.

Now, when I say ‘meditate’ I am referring to biblical meditation, and not that which is associated with Eastern philosophy or religions. In Hebrew the word meditate literally means to immerse your whole self in the truth of what God’s Word says by picturing, pondering, imagining, studying, and musing it over within your inner man, while also muttering, uttering and speaking this truth to yourself with the words of your mouth. Joshua was instructed not to let God’s Word depart from his mouth, but to meditate on it day and night so that he could observe himself doing all that it said. This was the key to how he would make his way prosperous and have good success (Josh 1:8 NKJV). Meditating on the Word therefore is not meant to be a one-off occurrence but rather it needs to be continued until revelation comes, and you see your circumstances through the eyes of what it says and not through what you see and experience in the natural realm.

Let me show you a truth in God’s Word to further explain what I mean:

My son, attend to my Words; consent and submit to my sayings [KJV says…incline your ear to My sayings].  Let them not depart from your sight; keep them in the centre of your heart. For they are life to those who find themhealing and health to all their flesh.  Keep and guard your heart with all vigilance and above all that you guard, for out of it flow the springs of life. [NIV says…Guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life]. Prov 4:20-23 (Amp)

I encourage you to read this passage in several different translations because it brings the meaning to life! You might have noticed that I have already included a couple for you. One of my favourite renderings is what the New Living Translation says:

My child, pay attention to what I say. Listen carefully to my words. Don’t lose sight of them. Let them penetrate deep into your heart, for they bring life to those who find them, and healing to their whole body. Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.

If we want to have Jesus abundant life and power (the ‘springs of life’) flowing out of our heart, affecting our body, our mind and also our outward circumstances, then we need to keep God’s Word before our eyes and ears by reading it, meditating upon it, hearing it preached, and hearing our own voice speaking it.

I have already shared in previous messages how God’s Word is alive and full of power (Heb 4:12). And how His Word comes to life is when it becomes living and active in us. Just think about it – when you keep meditating on God’s truth and it becomes alive and full of power in your spirit, it has to bring healing and health to your flesh!

The word health or healing in Proverbs 4:21 means cure or remedy. God’s Word is the cure or remedy, or in other words, the medicine we can take to receive healing in both our physical bodies and our outward circumstances! If you went to a medical doctor and he prescribed medication for you to take three times a day, would you take it? Of course you would. You would take it in faith expecting it to cure you. And since God’s power is greater than any worldly medicine, it will not only cure the symptoms, but can also bring healing to what was causing the condition in the first place.

Now that is Good News!

Created for Fruitfulness!
God created every single one of us with a perfect plan. We did not evolve! Every bone, muscle, tissue, and organ including those in our reproductive systems. God the creator, is also God the healer. If you have any problems in your reproductive system then God can heal you! It is God’s design for us to reproduce. He created us to have children. One of God’s first commands to man, was for us to reproduce by having children. It is His will and blessing for us and His word says He adds no trouble to His blessings.

Gen 1:28 God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”

Gen 9:7 As for you, be fruitful and increase in number; multiply on the earth and increase upon it.”

James 1:17 Every good and perfect gift (in this case children) is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.

Psa 127:3 Sons are a heritage from the LORD, children a reward from Him. (NAS) Behold, children are a gift of the Lord; The fruit of the womb is a reward.

Psa 115:14 May the LORD make you increase, both you and your children.

Jer 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

You Are Not Alone!
There are several couples in the Bible who could not conceive. Every couple who cried out to God were heard and He answered by opening their wombs! Remember always that God does not show favoritism, which means that what He has done for the following couples, He can also do for you!

Gen 25:21 Isaac prayed to the LORD on behalf of his wife, because she was barren. The LORD answered his prayer, and his wife Rebekah became pregnant.

Gen 29:31 & 30:17 & 22 When the Lord saw that Leah was not loved, He opened her womb, but Rachel was barren. God listened to Leah, and she became pregnant and bore Jacob a fifth son. Then God remembered Rachel; He listened to her and opened her womb. She became pregnant and gave birth to a son and said “God has taken away my disgrace.”

1 Sam 1:27 I prayed for this child, and the LORD has granted me what I asked of Him. (Hannah)

Luke 1:36,37 Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be barren is in her sixth month. For nothing is impossible with God.

Heb 11:11 By faith Abraham, even though he was past age–and Sarah herself was barren–was enabled to become a father because He considered him faithful who had made the promise.

Jesus Finished Work!

If you have a sickness in your body preventing your children from being conceived or carried safely to the full term of the pregnancy know that Jesus has ALREADY won the battle! The price for infertility and miscarriage has already been paid and the victory already won for you!

Isaiah 53:4-5 Surely He took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows, yet we considered Him stricken by God, smitten by Him, and afflicted. But He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon Him, and by His wounds we are healed.

You are now free to go forth, be fruitful and multiply!

FAQ – I prayed, fasted and believed but I still did not receive my breakthrough. Does this mean that I don’t have enough Faith?

Question: I prayed, fasted and believed but I did not receive (or have still not received) my breakthrough. Does this mean that I don’t have enough Faith?

Answer: I used to feel this way too! That was until the Lord showed me that this thinking is not the right focus because our breakthrough is not based on our own ability or performance but on Jesus’ ability and on His performance!

What is Faith?

Many have the wrong idea of what faith is. Their whole concept of faith is based upon their own actions so they get caught up in works and self-effort trying to please God or to get Him to respond to their need. But Faith is simple! Faith is trusting that Jesus’ sacrifice was enough – knowing that our works or self-effort will not earn righteousness, favour  or anything else from God.

Faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the Word of Christ. Rom 10:17

Faith comes and grows from hearing about who Jesus is and resting in what He has done!

Our faith in Jesus is enough because when we believed in Him we received everything we needed to live a victorious and blessed life – one that’s worth living! And you know what else? We don’t need to keep hearing the Word to get more faith. Instead, we need to keep hearing so we can discover what we already have!

Faith is not based on Works but on Rest!

It is easy to get caught up in works and self-effort and doing everything we know to get our breakthrough. We have prayer vigils, we fast, we declare the word, and do everything in our own strength to make things happen. However, we can only keep this going for so long, so we end up worn out, burnt out, confused, and discouraged.

If our breakthrough is dependent on ‘our faith’ (on our ability to believe) or on our performance by praying or doing the right things to make something happen, then we need to constantly maintain it. But think about this: if we had to do a whole bunch of stuff to receive then the end result would not be based on a free gift but on our ability to perform. Salvation comes ONLY as a free gift and is received by believing in Jesus! Seeing the fullness of what we have inherited upon salvation outworking in our lives comes the same way.

Praise God for Jesus! He has already paid the price, by redeeming you and giving you everything you need for your victory. Instead of striving to receive, rest and believe in what you’ve already received!

For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his worksas God did from His. Heb 4:10

The only striving the Christian needs to do is to labour to remain in a position of resting in Jesus (Heb 4:4). This comes when what God’s Word says regarding your situation becomes ‘living and active’ – alive and real to you personally. You have spent the time meditating on God’s truth until your thinking has been transformed so regardless of circumstances you are seeing yourself with the breakthrough rather than without it. However, if you are struggling in trying to obtain your breakthrough or if you are in a place of striving, feeling desperate, hopeless or discouraged then you are not at rest. It’s time to stop ‘doing’ and start ‘being’. In other words, stop ‘doing healing’ by working towards healing, instead meditate on Jesus finished work until you ARE healed! That way your focus and actions are no longer ‘working towards’ healing (or your breakthrough) but rather ‘walking in’ healing – where you are experiencing the breakthrough you need!

FAQ – What does it mean to walk uprightly in Psalm 84:11?

Question – In a recent blog post you mentioned Psalm. 84:11 in which says God will not withhold from “those who walk uprightly”. Can you explain what this means so that we understand what God was saying, please?

For the Lord God is a Sun and Shield; the Lord bestows present grace andfavor and [future] glory (honor, splendor, and heavenly bliss)! No good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly. Psalm 84:11 Amp

Remember always when reading the Old Testament that we need to filter everything we read through our New Covenant and Jesus finished work to be able to rightly divide what it says and also to see how it may (or may not) relate to us today. When we do this the message becomes simple and clear.

In a nutshell “to walk uprightly” is talking about a person who walks in righteousness. Rom 4:3 says that Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness. And in our New Covenant how does righteousness come? By believing in Jesus! Remember always that we are NOT under the Old Covenant, which to a large extent was conditional on the peoples performance BUT we are under a NEW Covenant which is TOTALLY dependent on Jesus performance and on His finished work. Therefore, we are made righteous not by observing the works of the law but ONLY by believing in Jesus! It is a GIFT of God, not of works so that no man (or woman) can boast (Eph 2:8-9)!

Remember also that through Jesus finished work God has ALREADY provided everything we need for life and for godliness (see 2 Pet 1:2-3). The inheritance is ALREADY ours. This means that God CANNOT withhold what He has already freely provided or any other good thing from those who believe in Jesus! In fact Rom 8:32 says He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things!

Now that is Good News!

Pray this helps :)

God does NOT use barrenness against us!

God does NOT use barrenness against us. But unfortunately many believe that He does. So when couples cannot have children God usually gets the blame. But God does NOT withhold from His children! This would go against his very nature and character. There is so much I could say on this matter but I have already covered this in detail in God’s Plan for Pregnancy and on my web sites so please visit them for more information.

If we believe God is using or worse causing Barrenness, then how can we go to Him or trust Him? Therefore, it is time to unlearn the traditions and doctrines of men and discover the truth that God is ALL for you being fruitful! Fruitfulness is His design and purpose for mankind. How much more so for His Covenent children?!

What I want you to always remember is to focus on Jesus because He is the Answer for Barrenness!

So rather than looking for someone to blame or looking for the cause or the root of the condition, look to the Solution, and by this I mean continue to look to Jesus and His finished work!

Jesus was the last Adam who came and redeemed mankind from everything that the first Adam bought upon us (Rom 5). He paid the price for everything that came in during the fall and that includes every form and manifestation of sickness and disease! Did you know that Infertility and miscarriage and whatever causes these are just different forms of sickness and disease operating in your reproductive organs? So the Good News for you is that through Jesus finished work on the Cross you now have victory over barrenness!

For the Lord God is a Sun and Shield; the Lord bestows present grace and favor and future glory, honour, splendor, and heavenly bliss! No good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightlyPsalm 84:11 Amp

Children are a blessing from God! They are not meant to be something that we fear or dread. God’s plans are NOT to harm you but to give you a HOPE and a future. God is also GOOD and He will not withhold any good thing from you. In fact God CANNOT withhold what He has ALREADY freely given! As I have already mentioned, through Jesus finished work we ALREADY have the provision of healing from ALL forms of sickness and disease. So renew your mind with the TRUTH that God CANNOT withhold children or curse with barrenness or use any form of sickness and disease against you!

Remember also that in Jesus ALL of God’s promises have been FULFILLED, so children and fruitfulness are YES and AMEN (so be it) for those who believe in Jesus!

Waiting on God?

The LORD is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him. Lam 3:25 (KJV)

Many believe that waiting on the Lord means to wait on the Lord for the length of time that it would take for Him to move in our life. However, the Bible itself explains what it means to wait on the Lord.

Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart:wait, I say, on the LORD. Psalm 27:14 (KJV)

The original word wait in this Scripture is the Hebrew Word Qavah and it means: to wait or look eagerly for, to hope, to expect.

Translating the above Scripture into the original language should therefore correctly read:

Expect in Jehovah, the One True God, be secure in Him, and He will confirm the determination of your heart. Expect I say, in Jehovah, the One true God.

There are many other Scriptures where the word wait is this same word Qavah (to expect). The Dictionary also defines the word wait as meaning ‘to expect’. Therefore, to wait on the Lord does not mean that we sit back passively until something happens. It means that we need to be active and expect to see God’s Word outworking in our life.

But they that wait (expect) upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. Isaiah 40:31 (KJV)

Those who expect shall have renewed strength. Not those who are hoping or wishing but for those who have a faith filled expectation to experience all that God has for them.

Expectancy is the breeding ground for miracles!

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Heb 11:1

Expectation fuels our faith (belief in Jesus finished work) and we are strengthened because faith (belief in Jesus finished work) is the substance of what we are expecting!

In the Old Testament Jer 1:12 (NIV) says that… God is watching His Word to perform it. The NKJV reads that ‘God is ready to perform His Word’. God was ready to perform everything He said and those that knew Him expected it to come to pass!

It is important to note that we have a better Covenant based on better promises than the Old Covenant. So when it comes to what Jesus has already purchased through His finished work we don’t have to wait or expect God to perform His Word. Why? Because He has already sent forth His Word and healed you, delivered you, forgiven you and set you free! Hallelujah! This is why all of the promises of God are ‘yes’ and ‘amen’ (so be it) in Christ. But the exciting thing is that what Jesus has purchased are not promises ‘per say’ but rather PROVISIONS! And if you belong to Christ then this is already your inheritance!  You can therefore expect to see what Jesus has already purchased for you outworking in your life!

Now that is Good News!
