Question – In a recent blog post you mentioned Psalm. 84:11 in which says God will not withhold from “those who walk uprightly”. Can you explain what this means so that we understand what God was saying, please?
For the Lord God is a Sun and Shield; the Lord bestows present grace andfavor and [future] glory (honor, splendor, and heavenly bliss)! No good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly. Psalm 84:11 Amp
Remember always when reading the Old Testament that we need to filter everything we read through our New Covenant and Jesus finished work to be able to rightly divide what it says and also to see how it may (or may not) relate to us today. When we do this the message becomes simple and clear.
In a nutshell “to walk uprightly” is talking about a person who walks in righteousness. Rom 4:3 says that Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness. And in our New Covenant how does righteousness come? By believing in Jesus! Remember always that we are NOT under the Old Covenant, which to a large extent was conditional on the peoples performance BUT we are under a NEW Covenant which is TOTALLY dependent on Jesus performance and on His finished work. Therefore, we are made righteous not by observing the works of the law but ONLY by believing in Jesus! It is a GIFT of God, not of works so that no man (or woman) can boast (Eph 2:8-9)!
Remember also that through Jesus finished work God has ALREADY provided everything we need for life and for godliness (see 2 Pet 1:2-3). The inheritance is ALREADY ours. This means that God CANNOT withhold what He has already freely provided or any other good thing from those who believe in Jesus! In fact Rom 8:32 says He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things!
Now that is Good News!
Pray this helps
